Ribchester Field Day
Ribchester plays host to regular events as part of its annual festivities calendar. The community also organises other one-off events to celebrate, fundraise or improve our village.
Field Day (Third Saturday in June)
The highlight of the village’s annual calendar and an event that is enjoyed by the whole village, Ribchester Field Day incorporates a parade along Blackburn Road and Water Street onto Church Street, which crosses in front of the panel of judges outside the White Bull pub. There are decorated floats, fancy dress, plenty of current ‘themes’ displayed by the walking participants and much more including the Field Day Queen and her retinue. The parade also welcomes various bands and musicians from the area which always adds to the liveliness of the afternoon. The parade ends with an afternoon of celebration and fun on the Playing Field (the ‘Rec’). In the marquee there are displays, the Field Day raffle, Tombola and all the competition entries to view.
In recent years the Field Day has been extended to include shows of various kinds on the Friday evening, and usually a big ‘finale’ event on the Saturday evening. It is always wise to get tickets for these evening events as they are frequently sold out.
Village Markets
Ribchester has had a May Market in the centre of the village for many years. This has been continued and expanded in recent times around the Bee Mill parking space and in the Ribchester Sports and Social Club. Many local groups and societies offer a wide range of produce, plants, cakes etc for sale from early in the morning until around 3.30pm.
Farmers’ Markets. A recent development has been to introduce regular Farmers’ Markets on the first Saturdays of the month, through the year from February onwards.
Both types of markets are currently suspended because of the Covid-19 regulations. Watch this space for further announcements about their recommencement.
